Italian Mineral Production
The following are a series of mineral production statistics, compiled from “Guida all’Industria estrattiva ed al riciclaggio” from 2002, from the latest complete source of statistical data on the sector. These figures do not show the production of precious metals such as gold and silver.
Provincial Mining Output in 2000
- Puglia is the largest mineral producer, with over 73Mt of minerals excavated
- Tuscany produced over 40Mt of ore annually
- Lombardia produced 42Mt
- Emilia Romagna produced 41Mt
- Lazio produced 34Mt
- Veneto and Puglia have the largest number of quarries with (607 and 606 respectively
- Tuscany 577 quarries
The above illustrates that mineral production is possible in Italy and that output is considerable today, contradicting that the country does not have a mining/quarrying-friendly character.i
